Middle School

Our middle school is designed to teach kids self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-reliance as they begin their transition into high school. To support this goal, the middle school teachers have incorporated a camping program into the curriculum. Middle school students participate in various backpacking and camping trips throughout the year, with dedicated time for learning about living in the outdoors and survival skills. Along with their Chromebooks, students receive a school provided backpack, one-person tent, 4-season sleeping bag, water filtration kit, and a cooking set up. As a direct result of these outdoor opportunities and getting outside the cattle guards, students are entering high school with the self-confidence of upper classmen, as opposed to freshmen.

For students in need, a reading specialist is available to help them become proficient readers as they enter high school. Eighth graders will receive instruction from the high school math teacher, and all students will have the opportunity to participate in indigenous cultural arts and languages of California.
